Board Biographies:

Josie Plieger, President

Josie is a residential leaseholder representative. Raised in Wyoming, she lives in Arbolera de Vida with her husband and 3 children. She has a social work degree and works with the developmentally disabled.

Claudia Issac, Ph.D., Vice President

Claudia is an Associate Professor in Community and Regional Planning at the University of New Mexico. Her planning scholarship, practice, and teaching focus on alternative approaches to technical assistance for community development. Her professional work includes working with Community Based Organizations on organization development, strategic planning and community development analysis. Isaac teaches courses in Planning Theory, Qualitative Research Methods, Community Based Practice, Gender and Economic Development, and Latin American Development Planning.

Jacobo Martinez, Secretary

Jacobo is a general member representative. He is native to New Mexico and makes his home in Arbolera de Vida. He is the Director for the Resource Center for Raza Planning at UNM. Jacobo has a Master’s degree in Community and Regional Planning.

Pat Nie, Treasurer

Pat is a public representative, Vice President for Community Development with Wells Fargo Bank and long term resident of Albuquerque. She is committed to helping New Mexico communities with affordable housing and economic development.

Javier Benavidez

Javier is a native New Mexican and will soon graduate from UNM with two master's degrees; one in Public Administration and the other in Community and Regional Planning. His graduate school professional project will provide a resource guide for other Albuquerque neighborhoods interested in establishing their own land trust models similar to the SCLT. Javier co-hosts a weekly public affairs radio show on KUNM 89.9FM and also serves on the boards of local grassroots organizations including 1000 Friends of New Mexico and the Southwest Organizing Project.

Stanley Harada

Stanley is a long-term resident in the Sawmill neighborhood and is a SAC member representative. In the past, he has been very active in the SAC Environmental Advocacy Program. He is an Attorney for the City of Albuquerque and provides legal guidance and volunteers for many community events.

Ron Romero

Ron is a general member representative. He is a General Contractor here in Albuquerque and has served on the Board of Directors of many civic organizations, including the Barelas Neighborhood Association, Working Classroom (currently Board President), Big Brothers and Big Sisters, New Mexico Heritage Preservation Association, TACA (local heritage preservation association). He has served on the City of Albuquerque's Landmarks and Urban Conservation Commission and on the City's Committee on Homelessness. He has been involved in the UNM School of Architecture & Planning's Design and Planning Assistance Center (DPAC).

Laurie Segura

Laurie is a leaseholder representative. She purchased her home in the Land Trust about seven years ago and since then has been active in neighborhood events. Laurie works for the City of Albuquerque and is the mother of three children.
